1999 JOHNSON 90 oil leak

I have a 99 Johnson V4 90HP. This week I removed the engine's plastic covers to get it painted and I noticed that the lower cover had some oil spilled towards the back (it seemed to accumulate there from the engine being tilt up), when I look up at the carbs from the bottom they seem to be very clean but a little oily around the outside. Is this normal or should I be worried about some of my oil leaking from the engine. I checked my hoses and they seem not to be cracked or anything. I believe the leak is coming from the big plastic intake air cover that has "V4" written on it. This engine had a carb job done 7 months ago and its been running fine.

Thanks.

storing the engine tilted also tilts the carbs, allowing the floats to open, and run over. best to store upright, running position.

As TD said, this is a normal occurance and not a big deal. It is often seen while trailering tilted and the fuel/ oil mixture seeps out of the carbs due to the angle (as TD said).

I regularly remove the intake (that you refer to as having a V-4 on it- it is black, plastic, and easily removed)- it is held on by 4 straps (2 on each side). There are also 2 hoses that are plugged in to it that you just pull away as you remove the intake from the openings of the carbs. You then have enough room to get under there and wipe down the area.

When replacing the intake cover, be sure that plug those 2 hoses back in to it and make sure that the hoses underneath are not being pinched or hampering the positioning over the carbs.

I end up wiping this small mess up when I change plugs at the end of the season....
