Hi Everyone,

I bought a Sea Ray Raider with a Sport Jet 90 L-Drive system a few months back really cheap...The motor in it was not locked up or anything. But it was worked on. Since then I have picked up another used Sport Jet 90 motor that fits the L-Drive perfectly but I do not know what year it is..its a much new motor. I have included pictures I need help figuring our what year it is. I located some numbers but not sure if this is the serial number on the block or a part number.

The ignition system in the picture is newer than my 95 and it also appears to be simpler...

So I have two key questions:

1: What year is the electronics/motor that I just bought (Note: Compression in each cylinder is 120 PSI turns by hand freely)

2: I have vent hoses from the each of the cylinder intake baffle plates that I need to know where they go?

I have a Clymer Mecury Sport Jet Shop Manual for 93-95 that shows me "ZIP" "ZERO" "Nothing" about the vent hoses or the new electronics.

Everyone's input will be greatly appreciated.

Re: Sea Ray Raider and Sport Jet 90 L-Drive

The number in the second photo does not help.

The ignition may be a newer cdm ignition,
Or not. Looks to have an old style 2 stage fuel pump.

How about some larger photos of all 4 sides of the engine.

Also, you have used both the terms "sport jet" and "L-drive" interchangeably.

They are not the same.
Sport jet is a jet drive system.
L-drive has a lower unit with a propeller, skeg, and anti-ventilation plate.

Hi Roscoe,

Thanks for the quick response. And thanks for correcting me on the "Sport Jet" "L-Drive" statements.

I have more pictures but I thought there was a size limitation for attachments..

Any way I have attached a couple more pictures for you to look at. If there are too small I will have to post them on my external site for you to look at.

Also you say CDM System. Does that system use spark plugs without any towers? I ask because the plugs that came out do not have the typical gap.

Thanks in advance for your input.

As long as you post the photos as attachments, you can go large.
If you imbed them in the thread, I think 400x600 is the limit.

The gapless plugs (center electrode with a ring around the edge) you mention are used on many Force and Merc motors.

Cdm ignition uses a stator, trigger, and the trigger connects directly to the coil modules. It does not have a separate switchbox.

Hi Roscoe,

Thanks OK...so I will just take my time and match up the old wiring with the new.

Do you have any input for me on the 1/4 hoses that are connected to the three side intake baffle plates?

Do connected them to the three tips/nozzles that are on the intake manifold????

Once again thanks for the input.

I have a 96 sport jet your motor looks the same as mine, with cdm ignition. The hoses are for your recirculation system. If the new motor came with the flywheel cover it should have the serial number on it.With some research you can find the year.GOOD LUCK

in the last pic you posted on top next to the stator there is a silver tag that looks painted over , clean it carefully and the serial number should be on it ... can trace it from there for you .

Just realized you have the same manual I do , on pages 12 and 13 it tells you where serial numbers are located.
