Is possibly the "moly lube" sold by evinrude for the drive shaft spline the same as "moly graphite" sold by local auto stores? I've always gotten a little tube water pump rebuild kit...but this time I just purchased the impeller...with no lube.

wheel bearing grease will work just fine. it is just to keep the shafts from rusting together. do not put grease on top of the shaft, just the sides. will air lock and hard to get shaft all the way back in.

You won't know until the next time you service the pump.

Moly and graphite are additives. They key part is what the base grease is designed to do.

You are probably ok but why not stick with the designed grease?

Local 'Rude shop didn't have any. They recently had a fire (boat wiring fire overnight) and a lot of their inventory is down.

Re: Moly Lube

I have an 8 oz container of Permatex Ultra Disc Brake Caliber Lube, enough for about a thousand brake jobs, i.e., I'll never use this stuff up. Isn't this equivalent to the BRP Moly lube? I thought I read somewhere you could use caliper lube for the driveshaft to prevent sticking. Or should I just buck up the 8 bucks, and buy some of the BRP stuff?

Use it, but let's put this three year old thread back to bed.
