Hi,
I have recently acquired an old 3 cylinder 2 stroke Outboard which I think is a Johnson. The original silver grey and blue colour scheme has been overpainted with white gloss and the finish has been completed with decals declaring the motor to be a Johnson Seahorse 70.
The ID plate on the transom mounting bracket has been removed at some time and I have not been able to find a serial number plate between the cylinders. The carbs have stamped part numbers with the prefixes 394810 MX70 and 394811 mx70 and on the adjacent linkage arm, the number 386652-02 is stamped above the "Start" indicator.
I have been told the motor runs but I am reluctant to test it until I have carried out an initial service. I need to identify what it is that I have and would welcome all and any help in identifying the motor.
Many thanks
Francis

Re: Johnson/Evinrude 70 -ID Help

there is usually a silver aluminum welch plug on the block with a number stamped into it....

on my 1988 block the plug is adjacent to the lift ring and the last two digits are 88 on mine...coincidence? or the year of model?

i think the later

good luck
