Hi everyone, I quess I can join you all now, as the black 75hp is gone off the back of my Starcraft now and the new to me completly rebuilt 90 is in the garage waiting for it's new ride. My question is how do I hook to motor to suspend it while mounting it to the boat. I previously owned an Evenrude 115 and it had lifting eyes on it and the Johnson dosen't. I have 2 ton engine crane ready to go. Is ther a special eye bolt or something that goes in the end of the crank?
Any help would be appreciated.

Tashasdaddy, So do you just scew an eye into the end of ht crank, or build a plate to bolt to the top of the flywheel? I did a search and only found one thread on this subject and it really didn'd explain it very well.
Thanks

a round disc, with holes drilled to match the flywheel and a lift eye welded to it. be sure to use grade 8 Hardened Bolts to go into flywheel.

you can actually use a harmonic balancer puller, you would use it to pull the flywheel anyway. again grade 8 bolts.

Glen, Have two guys stand the motor up on it's skeg. Now lift the trailer tongue and lower the transom until you can bolt it on.

Re: 93 Johnson 90hp install

Chris1956 The boat had a 75 Merc on it before and the holes are wrong, so I have to plug and redrill, so it won't be a quick process, that is why I want to lift it with my engine crane. I posted on here a while back and someone posted the specs for this O/B and it it is 309 lbs i don't want to take a chance on damaging it.
Does anyone know where to find a decal kit for the hood, it shows N/A on the sites I have checked.

You can get a pattern for the mounting bolt holes needed, and predrill them. You can drop the lower unit on the motor (replace water pump, while at it), and it will drop the weight 60# or so, and allow the motor to sit on it's midsection, which is pretty flat.

Improvise a sling out of heavy duty webbing and support it from under the head?

Re: 93 Johnson 90hp install Update

Thanks for all the replys everyone. I decided not to take a chance on breaking a coil or something. The waterpump was just changed during the rebuild. This is what I built, does it look right? I used 1/2" plate steel and a 3/4 inch lifting eye I had in my bolt bin, it is threaded into the plat with a half nut locking it from the bottom. The 5/16"gade 8 bolts have nuts for spacers under them to hold the plate off the end of the crank.

Re: 93 Johnson 90hp install

do you have at least 1.5 the dia of the bolts down into the flywheel???

should have that...so maybe a little more than 7/16"th worth of thread into the flywheel.
