RE: Floor repair 1994 Capri 1700
Greetings all,
RE: Floor repair 1994 Capri 1700 ? Outboard Motor
To my horror I have discovered that I need to replace 2 sections about 3x3 portions of the stern floor area where the plywood has rotted. I have determined that the stingers and the transom area as well as the remainder of the deck appear to be sound. The worst area is under the back seat battery storage section. I am going to completely gut that section of the top skim glass and wood. So, having read some of the threads on this subject I am getting a sense of what I am up against, but I am a little overwhelmed. I think I maybe fortunate here that it is not as bad as it could be, however, I am new at this and determined to fix it properly. So, I have a couple of questions for those of you in the know, and experienced.
1. After removing an appropriate section of plywood and foam, do I need to remove the foam from the whole stern area even if it is dry? Or can I take out amount of what I think I need to in order to tie into existing structure to secure new plywood.
2. What similar foam material should I use to fill the hollow areas with?
3. After I have laid down new wood and fitted what is the best way to secure it solid?
4. Also, what material should I use to seal the wood afterwards?
5. And finally, can I re-carpet or is there any other flooring that would work better?
I am a little worried about how I should approach this project considering I have no help and totally new at it. I would be grateful for any suggestions or links to threads etc.
Your wisdom is much appreciated.
Thank You!
Harley.
