Will the wrinkles in my sunbrella material relax themselves out? I am ready to start putting the snaps on but it has some slight creases from sitting.Should I wait or will they work out when I stretch it?
Bruce58 I took your advice and am sewing a 1 inch wide webbing around the seams.Your picture was a BIG HELP as I keep refering back to it;)
I ordered some sunbrella binding material and the binder attachment for the sewing machine.I had to modify my machine to attach it as it did not have any holes or anything to screw it down.I ran a sample piece thru and it sewed it just fine.By the way to all those wondering about what machines to use mine was purchased for 149.00 and is a Husqvarna Viking E10.It has sewn all my vinyl up to 6 layers and now is sewing webbing and four layers of sunbrella.Still going strong:) Not bad for someone who didn't know how to thread a needle when he started!
Thanks to everone who has voiced their opinions.Pics will be forth coming.

Re: Sunbrella wrinkles

Looking forward to pics! As for the wrinkles, they will just disappear as you use the top. Snap it on!

The guy who made my sunbrella tonneau cover put two extra layers all around where the windshield frame would contact the material. It was a nice job.

Sounds great. You are probably saving a wad o' dough making it yourself.

Are you planning on covering your windshield with the cover? Myself I'd recommend it although it will increase the complexity of your design. It's nice to know UV is completely blocked out. I'll try to find a pic of mine although I'm sure you can easily imagine what a covered windshield looks like...

I want to modify my cover so it will still snap on around my bimini top poles. I'm tired of having to put the bimini down to snap the cover on but I haven't had the cojones to cut into the top. Maybe watching your project will give me the nerve! :)

*edit* - OK - found a pic. You can see here how the cockpit cover overlaps the bow cover which helps shed water off the boat instead of into it. There is a strip of velcro along the top of the bow cover and another under the cockpit cover that keeps them sealed to each other.

Also, the reason for the reinforcing on the windshield frame area is evident as the side window frames are quite sharp at the rear.

If I was doing it again I'd get him to take both covers all the way to just above the rub rails, though. I realize now that the current design is going to result in a band of oxidized gelcoat all along those unprotected areas. Also, my filler cap is exposed which invites fuel theft or worse, vandalism. Yeah, yeah, way too paranoid - I know...:D

Thanks Scout those pictures help a ton.I will see how the bow cover goes.I'm putting snaps in now.:D The top cover I was going to do was one that snaps on top of the windshied.I already have one to copy but like the old bow cover it doesn't match my new interior.I figure this would serve as a bimini top (any thoughts on which would be better)
I have always liked those covers like yours. That may be more than I can handle though.Don't think I have enough material for that now.May attempt that at a future date as I have a semi custom travel cover and the boat is stored under cover. Wouldn't mind making some seat covers if there's enough sunbrela left over.
Thanks

Tip: if you don't have a bottle of this stuff . . . pick one up for your new Sunbrella material.

It's the most amazing fabric cleaner I have ever used. No harmful stuff in it, yet it cleans like nothing else with only a slight spray and a light brushing with a nylon brush . . . A little spray goes a long way.

It won't run the color and leave a ring like a solvent based cleaner will because of the fresh dye in the new Sunbrella fabric.

I have a full Sunbrella enclosure and love this stuff.

My Sunbrella enclosure is rolled up and stored as well as the bimini until needed and the wrinkles usually disappear in minutes.

Ah - ok, sorry. I thought we were talking tonneau covers. Still, Sunbrella is great stuff and I doubt you will be replacing it for a long time to come. My boat didn't come from the first owner with any kind of protection as he had a covered boat lift. So I salvaged the bimini from my previous boat, a SeaRay I/O and it just happened to be the perfect width and height. Then I got the tonneau covers you see in the pic above.

The bow cover is nice to use during the extreme ends of the season and keeps real cold air from blasting you while underway. Plus the kids like to play under it when they get sick of sightseeing.
