re-sellers on ebay

I'm bidding on some gps units lately. I don't have a long history with ebay, but it looks like I'm being out bid by resellers.

It's an open market and I guess they can do as they please, but it's annoying that the only competition on a particular item are re-sellers when "I want a gps!"

Ayuh,... What makes you think the winners are Resellers,..??

If a wholesaler is overbiding you, You're not bidding High enough...
Resellers only buy cheap enough to resell at a Profit....

Speaking of eBay and GPS...Have you give the factory refurbed units a look? I bought a Garmin 750 a couple of years ago for less than half of retail. It came packed in a box looking "as new" and had the same warranty as a new unit.

Well..... I know others will chime in on this but here are my personal ebay rules for success.....

NEVER ever bid early...... wait until the last minutes and last seconds to place your bid.

Set a maximum amount in your head and do not exceed that....

MOST important..... be patient

Ebay people make money because of the emotion involved..... the newer people tend to continue to bid daily and all that does is run the price up and make the seller rich.

Many of us here use ebay and have had our ups and downs.... people will help here ;)

Yup I too have a refurbished GPS and if you google that Refurbished GPS you might find one cheaper than on ebay.

Use a sniping service. Only way to go.

www.esnipe.com

And don't listen to the people that look down on sniping.

I get several of what I want and watch, like BobVT said, bid in the last few, put in max you will pay at about 20 seconds to go, quite often you win and do not have to pay the max you put in.

Ayuh, But the sport of sniping is having yer finger ON the trigger,.........

I do like you guys,...
I surf selected sellers,+ selected searches, clicking Watch for whatever tickles my fancy....
Then snipe it out at the end...

Sniping takes any emotion out of it,.... It's 1 shot 'er Nothin'......:D

I 'suspect' this because looking at their bidding/buying history they'll have purchased 10-15+ gps's last month. Either they are really accident prone, or they are reselling them.

I'll check re-furbished gps's. I know exactly what I want and its been out a few years so I'm sure there are some out there. (Garmin eTrex Vista HCx)

And make sure you know the full cost of shipping before you buy.

Your right....the prices of refurbished is considerably cheaper than ebay. This gps typically goes for $240-270....found one refurbished for $109. http://www.drivengps.com/Handheld/Garmin-eTrex-Legend-CX-p8169285.html

I said one time on this forum that I never buy electronics second hand or refurbished, BUT after doing some reading and looking at this price I'm thinking I may go this route.

Whoops, I made a mistake. I accidentally put Legend instead of Vista.....sadly it's not $109, its $239...bummer.

BUT, the only difference between these two is electronic compass and barometric altimeter....two things I wanted, but look at that price....$109!

paulspaddle, the $109.00 legend cx dosn't have a High Sensitivity Reciever the $197.99 legend Hcx dose. Both legends have a barometric altimeter, however neither have an electronic compass.

Thanks Jeff...Ya, I think I'm going to stick with a Vista HCx. High sensitivity, electronic compass and barometric altimeter. I found some refurbished ones' for $148-ish.

I was interested in the 76CXs, as it floats, larger internal memory and larger screen. Compared them side by side today and IMO felt the eTrex had a way better, brighter screen and frankly the screen didn't look much smaller, just a different shape.

Good deal, I'm thinking about looking for one myself. I would just like to have one on the boat, there is a couple places where we will occasionally fish a GPS would be nice along with a hydro map. Also could use it to mark good structure.
