ProTournament 300 warranty?????

In April of last year I purchased a ProTournament 300 from iBoats. Received it in 3 days - wtg iBoats.

Since I purchased that charger I've had "issues" with my boat that required me to send it to Florida not once but twice for a total of 7 months. The last time I completely stripped the rigging compartment prior to sending it back. This included 2 - tolling batteries, 1-cranking battery and the new ProTournament 300 charger.

Recently I received notification that my boat would once again be ready for pick-up around the first of March. Soooo... I figured I'd hook up the ProCharger 300 to the batteries and get them charged up to make sure all was well. It wasn't.

The ProCharger failed to function. After going through the troubleshooting section of the owners manual I contacted ProTournament to have a new unit expressed shipped to me with an enclosed pre-paid return shipping lable included for the return of the defective unit - as per the warranty statment included in the owners manual.

I was informed that because my unit was more than 6 months old I would have to pre-pay ship my unit to them and "if" it was defective they'd repair it and return it to me. WHAT??? I explain to the guy at ProTournament what my warranty says per the owners manual. He told me "You have to understand we were shipping units out and not getting them back so we had to change our policy!" WHAT? That doesn't sound like it should be my problem. After much complaining I was instructed to fax my original invoice to them and they would follow though with their warranty as stated. I faxed it and have called them to confirm they received it but have not received a return call at this time.

My decision to purchase this ProTournament 300 charger from iBoats was largely based on the warranty - as stated at the time of purchase. This unit has lasted a total of less than 4 months in service. I expect the replacement to fair no better at which time I'll return to the ProCharger that I've used in the past.

Based on my personal experience with ProTournament chargers double-dealing warranty issues I will not purchase from that manufacture again and would never recommend anyone else to them either. What if they decided to offer no warranty at all because they had too many units failing??? What would stop them from doing that? It's a chance I won't take I can tell you that for sure!

Update: I just received confirmation that a new unit will ship - probably tomorrow. While I do appreciate them honoring their warranty I still am not satisfied with the change in stated warranty and will neither purchase nor recommend them in the future.

SeaBob... I appreciate your response. As in the update I posted they have agreeded to ship a new unit as stated in the warranty. And I'm satisfied with that response. I will send Jim an email per your recommendation simply to give him this end users perspective of a policy change after the purchase.

Thanks again,
Doug

Doug,

I have emailed you back and hope we can resolve this miscommunication. I have informed my department to make sure everyone is on the same page that we are to follow the warranty as we always did. Once again, I appreciate your thoughts.

Re: ProTournament 300 warranty?????

Here's an update on this issue.

The replacement unit was shipped "express" next day air UPS. I received it on Friday the 26th. It came with a pre-paid return shipping lable. I packaged the defective unit and return shipped it with in 1 hour of receiving the replacement.

The only problem I feel that really produced a negative impact was upon contact with ProMariner I was told "... because the unit is more than six month old... policy changed..." During my discussion with the technician that made those statments he changed that stance to "If you will fax me the original invoice we will honor the warranty as stated". Had the conversation started with that there would have been no confusion and no negative feelings towards ProMariner on my end.

Re: ProTournament 300 warranty?????

Doug,

Thank you again for bringing this to my attention!

Since reading your initial response I have had a group meeting to discuss that the warranty is the warranty and this can not be deviated from.

Once again thank you for taking the time to address this with me.

Jim
