Mercury 60hp 2 stroke no power

Hi, I'm new here and looking for advice. My mercury 60hp runs fine with the muffs on in neutral and at full throttle. But, when in the water, I have very little power at full throttle. Only runs about 15 mph. When in neutral it revs fine. Is this a fuel problem? I'm not mechanically inclined when it comes to outboards, so any help is appreciated.

You haven't given us a serial number or year of your engine (serial number preferred)... so I will assume it's a 3 cylinder 1990+...

Those engines are really hard on spark plugs... If they haven't been replaced in a while, that's where I'd start....

Hi Chris, sorry for not providing that. My serial number is C265202. It's a 3 cyl. I will start there. I have also read a couple threads on here about fuel pump issues and other fuel problems.

revving fine on muffs doesn't mean much. BTW, never ever push it past 1500-2000rpm without a load (ie on muffs).

1 - check compression (you could have a bad, scuffed sleeve or snapped a ring)
2 - check for strong spark on all 3 cylinders (thoses triple can run on 2 without you noticing)
3 - while on the water, try priming the fuel bulb when the throttle is fully advanced (if it pickup speed, you have a bad fuel pump). If they haven't been cleaned lately, it could also be a good idea to do the carbs

by the serial, your engine is a 1990 2 carbs model with Auto-blend.

Cleaned out the carbs....She runs like a scalded dog now! Thanks for all the advice.
