I have a 1989 Evinrude 40hp with the vro disabled and mixing gas. I went to local dealer and asked for the QL78YC plug and he said that I should use the QL77JC4. Any remarks are appreciated. I put the QL77JC4 in and seems to run ok but would I get better performance and milage out of the QL78YC

The current listing for the 1989 recreational 40HP motor is the QL78YC.

Thanks but I was curious as to whether I would now need a suppressor plug since I disconnected the vro

I don't see the connection between VRO and plug... I run the standard plug in my 1990 40HP and I premix. I get no excessive fouling. Use good oil and tell the dealer you just want the plug you want.

thanks but according to the charts if you dissconnect the vro you don't need a suppressor plug which is a Q in front and I seem to be using a whole lot of gas.

according to the charts
charts?

check compression, check spark, run some seafoam through

unless you changed to a supression plug at the time fuel consumption increased, I don't see the logic

both plugs you reference have the Q so they're both suppression plugs

QL78YC is the one for your motor
