early 50s gale recoil

I have a 53 Sea King recoil I need to repair. Pulley is bent in and rope will not feed in. Same as lightwins from that era.

I took the center screw out and lifted it carefully and saw the sping was coming with it.

Question is do I continue? Is the spring going to go back in?

it should go back in, but it wont be very fun.

Are you surmising or are you talking from direct experience with this type of recoil?

The little cup you are lifting out has a pin on it that is on the end of the spring. You can pry it off with a screw driver, before it comes flying out of the housing,........hopefully.
