I need some advice as to where to start....
We just bought this boat and have lots to do.
It looks like the motor was drug down the street while towing and the skeg is broke pretty close to the case (no leaks)and the prop is tore up pretty bad.
I would like to put the boat in the water and do a test run before I put alot of money into a black hole that I cannot use.

My question is, Can I drive the boat with a broken skeg? And what are the results of driving with a broken skeg? I will purchase a new prop before the initial ride to reduce vibration and wear on the motor.Any help and advice will be greatly appreciated.......

Re: 120 force broken skeg

Old-timers used to cut them off for less drag! The skeg will improve turning slightly, but really, the directed thrust of the prop does most of the work. And, while it is generally accepted that the skeg helps protect the prop, I have many bent props that attest otherwise.

So, go ahead, run the engine without the skeg until it aesthetically bothers you enough to replace it.
