Long time, first time - so here it goes.
I adopted a 1960 Anthony boat with the mentioned motor from the original owner. The boat hasn't been in water for about three years, but I hooked up a water hose to it and fired it up. To my suprise it seems to run pretty well.
So, now I want to do all of the usual maintenance; impeller, tune up etc. I have a service manual and some know-how. Can anyone give me some advise as to how to go about this? I would like know about changing the impeller and and gaskets in the lower end. Seems to me that there is a liitle oil leaking. Plus is there a tell-tail(sp?)? I did not notice it.Anyway I will be posting a lot more as this project goes on. Thank you in advance.

How did you go about hooking up a garden hose? Flushing attachments for that motor are very rare. The tell tale is the big hole in the rear of the midsection. The amount of water blowing out varies from a light spray to a heavy spray, depending on whether or not the thermostat is open. Most of the time it will be closed when running at idle, especially in cold lake water. All bets are off if trying to run it out of the water without a proper flushing attachment.

The service manual will explain how to replace a water pump.

bas13 ,i used a large tote tub to run mine in worked well and is cheap,of course F R is correct there is no tell tale like newer motors though maybe one could be added. F R?If you dont have one a manual is a must with factory being most desirable then seloc ,i find the clymers terrible personally, still better than nothing atall.I have the 63 75hp starflite and F R helped me out a lot with a ignition issue that i couldnt really figure out due to extreme brain freeze, lol.Id change the impeller ,condencer ,points at least .Also the lower unit oil and dont forget to put new washers on the fill and vent screws as they are one time use items. Is yours a mechanical or elect shift model?Sorry after all this typing i see you have a manual so ignore that part, lol.Id also hook up a tac to the motor if only temporarilly to make sure the motor and boat combo are set up properlly.

The original owner must have made a custom fitting. All I do is take off the plate on the side (3 screws) and replace it with the same size plate but with a hose attachment. Turn the hose on and start her up. Seems to work well.

As for a manual I believe I have a seloc, but I need to double check.
Good point on the washers...I was thinking the same thing.

What are some other parts I should replace while doing the impeller? I figure I will be in there anyways.

As for the tac there is one in the dash, looks original, and works well. Do you think I should hook up another one to cross check?

Thanks for the help guys. Looking forward to being a contributor.

wish i had one of those adapters for the hose.theres really not a lot that needs replacing when you in there unless your adressing problems such as leaking etc.there should be a o ring on the top of the drive shaft that needs to be there.sits in a groove cant miss it .i mentioned the tac becase mine didnt have one and im going to have to adress that issue as im putting the 63 75 on a very light (500lbs) 17 foot cedarstrip boat so i dont have a clue about rpms ,etc for my application .you allready got a tac so unless you suspect its not reading right your way ahead of the game.

You can see a video of my engine running after I installed a telltale. You can see the spray out of the exhaust relief port too. Search "speedifour" on Youtube. I followed the instructions right here on iboats and installed one. You can see the tube snaking down from the top of the engine to the lower engine cover.
