Hello I've been intensely searching craigslist for a new boat here is what i came across. its a 1999 Tracker/tahoe the man is asking 5,500 b/c seats need replaced

So i guess if you were getting a First boat would you consider this? I've already looked around online and found replacement for the seats it would end up costing me just shy of 500 to replace the 4 middle seats.

one concern is i noticed the carpet and it looks kinda wet...

so basically it boils down to saving a few bucks and replacing the seats or splurgle a little and buy one that doesn't needs the stuff replaced.

I'll take all thoughts and criticism

And Here is the other option i was looking at.

Re: Noob Here

The seats are toast, the floor is wet, and there are leaves in boat. The picture of the boat with the cover on is only for show, that boat has been uncovered most of its life. Makes you wonder if the previous owner takes preventive maintenance seriously. Not to make any broad generalizations, but Tahoe boats are "entry level", and sometimes people attracted to the entry level boats are not the greatest owners.

No way i would give 5500 for it.My bet is the floor is in the beginning stages of rot too.
If the seller left a nice boat get in that condition then you know it was probably never serviced yearly.

Looks like a huge money pit waiting to happen...Sorry,just being honest...;)

both boats are way over priced. one is a 1999 the other 1996. they both are ready for a lot of expensive deferred maintainance.

For 5 grand you should be able to find a decent well maintained BR. Don't be afraid to check out the marinas, I just turned down a '27 wellcraft on a 3 axle aluminum trailer from a local dealer. It didn't need enough work for me :)

That Tahoe is a quick way to have a bad boating experience

Soo...where is "around here". Its still too cold to boat in much of the country, and folks around iboats are experts at CL...

Re: Noob Here

I agree they are over priced for the lack of care that has been given the two boats. Rinker looks like it is in good shape but remember we are in a buyers market right now and with a little patience you should be able to find a good condition boat for the right price.

yes, but be sure not to get "stuck" with a project that will spend the first summer torn apart in your garage, or stuck at a mechanics yard. that would be just as bad. Theres good deals out there. maybe not this week, but they will be out there.

You never know what they sold for. Bird in the hand is worth two in the bush. It's business, he wants to get rid of it, and, you don't want to pay anything for it. Take the emotion out of it and make him that offer. They want turn key excelent condition prices but are selling a project. Price it accordingly, the seats are $500 what about instalation cost.

Take your time

That Rinker being 15 years old he is asking way too much. It would have to be in top notch condition then maybe offer 5k.

You will spend far less driving one day south to pick up a great boat at a good price than trying to bring back an overpriced boat that has been used / neglected for nearly 2 decades. It will be the best money saving weekend you'll ever spend.

i have to admit the rinker was in in pretty damn good condition its been stored indoor all its life except this past winter....

i also found out that when i opened that thing in the middle of the boat that usually stores skis it was completely filled with water and half way frozen...
