I'd go for the Alumacraft

on two boats that similar it's condition that matters... rivets tight no leaks no cracks etc.... then look at price...... ie if you get to 600 for one vs 250 for the other.....all else being equal....... I'd go with the alumacraft too

Apparently they are both good boats. I had a 1950's 16 ft Lonestar back in the 70's. That thing was almost indestructable.

The alumicraft looked a bit wider. The extra stability will be nice with a 3 year old. I also liked that it had a built in light on the front, just hope there is one for the back too.

you can not beat the quality of the lonestar. i had this late 50's early 60's, with a 1958 15hp evinrure. it was one of the best combos i ever had. put stick steering, and remote controls on it.

Take whichever one is deeper and wider.

I had a 1965 LoneStar 16.5 ft for 23 years and thought it was well-built. However, your decision probably should be based on the current condition of the two boats since they are very similar. The name of the manufacturer means very little with old boats as opposed to the care and treatment they have received from their previous owners. Good luck!

I grew up with Lone Star....being a Texan and all and Texas IS the Lone Star State, but later was exposed to Alumacraft and owned a couple. I think, that due to the way the latter is constructed it is a sturdier boat. I never got the two side by side and tried to wiggle them but I know the latter didn't wiggle when you tried to rock it from side to side.

My dad just bought that same Alumacraft this fall. The day we picked it up we were anxious to take it out even though the weather was totally inappropriate. Huge chop in our nearby lake. The boat handled it amazingly well for such a small craft. Alumacrafts are very well made.
