Hello:
Does the power head from a 1972 mercury 115 interchange with one on a 1978 mercury 115?
Thanks
Ron

Thanks!! I have a 1978 merc. 115 with one bad cylinder and I have a 1972 that was given to my that runs but no trim and a bad lower unit. So between the two maybe I can make one good one.
Thanks
Ron

I am sorry to say it will not work if your 72 is really a 72, the exhaust ports at the base of the block will not line up properly, 72 had oval 73 and up had square. The pistons from the 72 however will repair your 78.

The re-design in blocks was made after 1971; if the '72 is indeed a "Blue-Striper", the blocks are interchangeable (as far as bolt patterns go).

Thanks Ed, for some reason I always thought it was 72, I certainly defer to your knowledge on this one. The good news is our poster is a happy camper.
