I have seen it done on work barge pontoons. It cost's $$$$$

All the weight takes away from your capacity too.

Why do you want to use it? If it is for the surface to walk on..... you can get the same surface made with a rubber product and glue it down.

A great deal of light will reflect off of it also, some people around here have etched the surface or coated it with something to reduce the glare.

Its fairly light though.

Probably more for commercial/work type boats where durability trumps price, weight. Marine plywood might be a good alternative and it would be lighter, cover with outdoor carpet. Good Luck!

Re: Diamond Plate decking for pontoon

Thanks for the replies!

We have a cottage on an island, and I would be hauling construction material, ATV etc. I'd also add a ramp to the bow for easy loading.

Stanley boats http://www.stanleyboats.ca/predator.html inspired this. I would also like to make it a comfy boat with loungers. I like the industrial look, plus the fact it would last way longer than carpeted plywood. I can't see it being THAT much heavier than ply.

I'm thinking I could pick up a set of pontoons, providing they're in relatively good shape, from an otherwise decrepid boat (pooched motor and deck). I recently abandoned the idea of restoring a '70 tri-hull. It had numerous cracks in the hull.

It seems like a cool idea to me :D.
