can u fix the transum your self

i just got a 1984 silver line and found that 6" of the transum is gone it crumbles in my hand. i dont want to put alot of $ in it can i do it myself or do i need to sell it i need help. what can i do?

good news is you can do it yourself for a fraction of the cost. Just head over to the restoration forum and you can see pictures and directions for how others have done it. I'm no expert as I'm new here, but I quickly picked up on it by seeing what others have done.

First thing first, welcome to the forum. Yes, you can fix your own transom. I am not familiar with Silverline, is it aluminum or fibreglass? Both can be done but aluminum is easier. There are several projects with pictures in the restoration forum. You can use wood, seacast or composite to repair with. Check your floor and stringers as well. Sometimes your transom rebuild can turn into a complete rebuild. Good luck with your project.

pics are already posted for you in the restoration forum. Just scroll through and you can see several restored transoms. they list places where to buy the resin and tell you exactly what types work best also.
