Keep seeing an ad in the local paper for a 30 footer with a TR2 drive. Never heard anyone talking on here about their TR2.

Re: TR2 drive?

Ayuh,... The TR drives,+ TRS drives are old reliable drives built like a Tank...
They don't shift, but have a transmission between the motor,+ drive...
They're Obsolete, but have seen a minor resurgence in some Hot Rod circles..

I believe there's manuals for 'em in the Adults Only section...

Re: TR2 drive?

TRS has a small Alpha 1 size lower unit- typical 14.25" dia prop
TR has a a much larger lower unit which takes a giant 19" diameter propeller.

Otherwise TR and TRS are the same.

TR2 uses a MerctransII transmission where TR and TRS usually used a Borg Warner trans.
The Borg Warner is usually considered a stronger unit.

And that propshaft matches a Bravo 2's shaft. Just for thought, the B2 props are VERY expensive, (over $500 for aluminum) so if that is the drive the boat has, experimenting with props will be costly.

Re: TR2 drive?

Those drives were made for houseboats and heavy offshore fishing boats. They have a 2:1 gear ratio. Lower units are so long their dragging deep under water. Don't work good on anything else. A TRS is what you would want for a sport type boat. Their 1.5:1 gear ratio and have a shorter lower unit. TRS can use B1 props. Uppers are identical.
