Hi, this the second post for this motor I have no spark in the top cylinder at low speed. Only after mid throttle does the top cylinder kick in. So far i have:
1. replaced both points and condensers
2. removed the point ground wire(in case it was shorting)
3 replace the top coil with a new one.
4. recheck all setting numerous times (has the fly wheel on and off 8 times.
Still the top cylinder only kick in at mid throttle( motor about jumps out of the barrel. The only components I haven't replace are the spark plugs and the high tension leads. They are next. Can you fellows think of anything else to do. Any suggestions would greatly be appreciated. Thanks...Robert:confused:

Try running the engine in the dark with the cover off. You may be able to see current leaking in the form of small blue sparks to the engine block. These would be your leaks.

Swap plugs and wires, check your flywheel magnets.

seeing that this is a 37 year old motor, and a good one. i would suggest spark plug wires, and if you have not change plugs do so. Champion J6C gapped at .030 run very well in them. connect you wiring back to the original configuration. also new fuel lines, as ethanol eats the old ones and that clogs the carb. points need to be clean, shiney, set at .020. edge of coil has to be set inline with the bosses on the timing plate.

It's also important is that each ignition coil is located properly to interface with the flywheel magnets.

Make sure the edges of the coil line up with the edge of the surface of the magneto plate, has to be dead of or too much air gap will occur.

Re: 9.5 magnito exasperation

I read the thread as you HAVE NOT changed the plugs.
Per TD's post, "do not pass Go"...etc. etc. get a new one in just the "dead " cylinder first.

Also, I have seen a too lean condition give this symptom. If the compression is a bit different in the 2 cylinders you may not be getting enough fuel drawn in at low rpm....once the high speed jet cuts in, power from BOTH cylinders.
