1984 50hp Mercury 4cyl. 2 stroke with no spark

Been searching around here for awhile,with no luck.
Where do I begin checking and how?
It lost spark just sitting there. Ran fine before.
I would like to know step by step if possible.
Any help would be great. My Dad has a book on it but he is 2hrs away.

It would take a very long time to talk you through step by step so this will get you started until you go get the book cause that will help you more then then you can get on a forum not that we can't help but the book will help you isolate lots of things and and if that don't work then we'll be here but these pages will give you a starting point good luck
