I have a 1995 40hp Mariner Magnum 4cyl that has been sitting up for about 5 yrs. I cleaned the carbarators, fuel pump, all hoses, changed fuel line, spark plugs. The motors starts fine and runs good with the choke on but when you put it into gear it dies. Any suggestion would be appreciated. Thanks.

Ahoy,

Welcome to iboats. :)

Well, it is clearly too lean to run without the choke. That could be several things, the most likely being:

Unsuccessful cleaning of the carbs leaving jets or orifices partly plugged.

Air leak into the crankcase, requiring carbs to supply extra fuel to compensate.

Check out all gaskets into the crankcase, particularly around reed plate and bypass covers.
