Ok so I inherited a boat motor recently, and I am trying to determine the year. The transom plate has a serial number of 35515-18439, which best as I can tell is from a 1958 35hp Evinrude. As you can see from the pictures, what I have is a 40HP Johnson. The only numbers I have found so far on the motor are part numbers.

377267
377113
305081

Anyone have an idea?

Re: Help identifiying motor,

35515 is a 58 35.

the model # should be under the front handle on the transom bracket on the 40 hp, also on a quarter size silver disc on the block.

Re: Help identifiying motor,

When I was in High School I often wore my older brother's clothes. Wearing Bob's sweater didn't make me Bob.

I think what you have here is an Evinrude 35 wearing a Johnson 40 cowling from the early 60s. That doesn't make it a Johnson.

Re: Help identifiying motor,

Thanks for all your help. A tittle was found for the motor. It was overlooked and assumed to belong to a motor that my grandfather had cannibalized. He was known to do that. Most likely why the cowling is different.
