cracked lower unit

can you weld a small crack on the lower unit of a 82 johnson 115? any suggestions?

Yes, I am a welder and have welded on lower units before.

I havealso used JB weld with really good results, ran the engine for 2 years with no water intrusion.

I woudl almost rather go with the JB because if you happen to get a hack welder he copuld really screw you up, the jb grinds right off and there is no heat to warp anything.

JB weld is good stuff. I knocked a quarter sized hole in a lower unit once and my mechanic said due to the location of the hole a weld would never hold. I filled the hole with epoxy putty then coated it with JB weld and painted over it. It held for years. Never told the guy I sold the boat to about the hole. I figured it didn't matter since the thing was like new anyway.
