Mercury 115 ProXS versus Optimax 125

I'm looking to buy a new outboard for my 2001 Nitro NX750 DC. It currently is well underpowered w/ a 75hp Merc. I want to put at least a 115hp Merc on it. I've read a couple of reviews saying that the 115 Optimax falls short on performance. But I know the ProXS has a reputation for being better and faster. So my question is, with prices being the same between the 115 ProXS and a 125 Optimax, for the money, which would be the better buy and performer? Thanks in advance!!!

Why limit your self to the opti max??? How about the E TEC? Same weight extra cylinder lot less maintaince and way less parts to go wrong. No air compressor, belts, and all the other trubblesome parts the opti max has and you can winterize your self plus if you ever troll the evinrude is much better. But if you have to by the opti max 115 pro xs would be my choice its stonger then 125 and been around longer then 125! Plus the speeds would be with in few miles and hour of eachother if not the same.

That boats rated for a 150 ,why underate it? The least I would put on is the 135hp.

Thanks for the replies. The NX750 DC is Max Rated at a 135hp. I'm sticking with the 115 or 125 due to cost more than anything ie. controls. The boat does pretty good with just me in it, less than a 1/2 tank of gas and live well. But put any of my buddies in there with me, plus there equipment, that 75 labors to say the least. I think I'll go with the 115 ProXS. Was leaning there anyway, just needed some confirmation. Thanks again for the replies.

What ever you buy DO NOT BUY an Optimax. I have a 2010 Opti 115 Pro FS and it runs like crap. Been tested THREE times by so-called Merc mechanic and can not figure out BUT Mercury WILL NOT SEND factory expert to look at. Think engine was a factory reject that they dumped on me. Yeah, The Attorney General has been advised.
