I'm thinking on buying a used 2006 MAG 350 MPI sterndrive and converting to Inboard. Parts I think that are needed include Bell Housing, Drive plate, flywheel, engine and tranny mounts and wiring harness. I'm not sure if the existing engine control processer will work. Any input on this would be greatly appreciated......Thanks...John

Are you really converting a stearndrive to an inboard? or are you going to put that motor in an inboard boat that needs an engine? If so what do you have now other than the i/o unit.

Unless you are removing the engine to but in a boat designed for an inboard, this is almost impossible. The hull design of in an inboard is different from an I/O, and I can't imagine why you would want to have an inboard over an I/O anyway except if you are really afraid of the bellows leaking.

Total sheer madness. Transmision.....will it be V drive or atraight? if straight where is the engine going to be placed....center of gravity will be in the bow....If V drive I doubt very much you will have space in a 20 footer...Prop shaft...Oh my god!!! bye bye boat.. Anyway good luck:

Reading John's original post I believe he's got an inboard boat and is looking for an engine for it. He's found a 350Mag stern drive engine and wants to convert that ENGINE to an inboard... Right John?

marife.. Where does he say he's got a 20 footer?

Yes, it is a inboard boat. A 1970 chris craft cutlass. The original engine was a chris craft 327Q that is not rebuildable. There was a used 2006 350 mag MPI I/O that was for sale that I was considering converting. ( I would have relied sooner but I had computer problems.)

Hi John,

I had a look in the manual and the sterndrive and inboard engines use different computers. However, I can't for the life of me think what would be that different about the engines that the sterndrive computer wouldn't work as an inboard. I'm sure if you download the manuals from the ADULTS ONLY section you'd be able to figure it out....

Just be aware that the 350MPI can be either manual throttle and shift or DTS (Digital Throttle/Shift)

Chris........
