1976 johnson 85 hp tach???

i am having a hard time finding a tach to put in my boat i was wondering what kind of tach i should get, how many poles. i heard that a auto tach on 8cyl should work but i dont think it will, any help would be great thanks

You need a tachometer that can be set to 6P on the dial on the back of the tachometer. BRP, Faria and Teleflex all have various versions that will work.

If you have the original side mounted remote control that came with the motor, the gray signal wire is taped off inside the control.
