Force 40, clicking prop shaft

I just bought this 96 Force 40 horse. Prior to buying it I put it in gear, apparently reverse, and turned prop buy hand, back and forth to check for backlash/wear in the lower unit. After I got it home I was looking it over and done this again, only in forward. With little effort it turns freely in the foward direction with a clicking sound. Is there an overrunning clutch of some sort in there? Why? Please tell me this is normal.

you will hear that same clicking noise if you are running real fast across the water and throttle down quickly, it is just the prop moving faster than the engine.

Yes on the overrun clutch! Like Mile high said, it's for when the prop is turning faster than the engine during deceleration. Thrust in F is the opposite direction and increased hand pressure in that direction will ultimately turn the crankshaft.
