Would like to know if this part breaks easily, if not, what stupid issue would you need to do in order to break it ? Is the rod lever that connects to shift lever metal or plastic ?

Plastic lever, steel mechanism and it's hard to break, but people can do it if they try real hard. Usually its sailors with no maintenance skills who don't lube the lever once a year. salt will eventually get past the o-rings on the lever and cause it to bind. They force it, it breaks. Its a 3 minute process to pull the inspection plate and grease it.

Search me:) I once watched a guy get in a new car and break off the turn signal lever by forcing it down. People are inherently stupid.
