Hey guys, I`m new here.

I`m looking at buying a boat, my first inboard at that. The problem is I`m not familiar with inboard boat motors. The boat has a series 800 omc stern drive and the motor is a 3.8l. is that the equivilant to the ole buick 3.8l? The boat motor threw a rod through the block and I`m wondering if I can just replace it with a buick 3.8l and just put the marine manifolds and such on or is there more to it than that?

Thanks in advance
Ron

I`m looking at buying a boat,
Don't walk, run past that boat.
OMC went out of buisness about 12 years ago. The 3.8 isn't used any more (for a million years), and the outdrive stopped manufacture in 85, There are no new techs with tools and the ability (aka desire) to work on those old drives.
Now, why would you want to buy those problems.

If you already owned it, you may find help getting it fixed but if you don't already own it, keep looking. Really Old boats cost more in the long run than buying a newer model that already works.

But to ANSWER your question, no thats not a Buick, it's a 229 CID Chevrolet engine; closest relative is the 4.3V6 and even it wont fit, there is no stringer engine coupler to fit it. Keep lookin... 'nutcase
