Don't know exactly what you're saying, but it's common knowledge that you have to make sure all the grounds are good.

If all the grounds are good, and you have checked them! and the arcing is from the output posts on the switchboxes, then there have way to much dirt on them.

Re: my mercury switch boxes are shorting out

I checked all grounds they seem to be good. The terminals are clean on the switch boxes. I actually just replaced one of the switch boxes, and now this is the problem im having. If i dismount the switch boxes and keep them spaced away form anything metal the motor runs fine, but as soon as they touch eachother or the mounting plate they short out. I even tried to ground out the switch boxes with no luck. I have tried to put pieces of rubber behind the boxes and that didnt work either. I wonder if there is something wrong with the swith boxes themselves?? This motor has me so frustrated, im ready to find a new hobby. I appreciate any help you guys have given me, maybe its time to bring it to the mechanic $$$???

They are supposed to be tightly mounted and well grounded. If the mounting and grounds fail, they often get toasted. At this point it looks like they're done.

Also, check your trigger for faults to ground.

hope it helps
