Hi,
I am new to boat maintenance and have taken on a project to get an old Fletcher 22 back in the water, it had a new engine (5.7 L X EFI 350 with bravo 1 drive ) fitted 12 years ago and has been run every year or so I have been told, but only out of water.
I have replaced all missing parts and changed oil's (which still looked like new) filters etc and it started up no problem, I stopped it within a minute and checked all levels then run it for 10 min and stopped it again, when I tried to re start it the engine had seized solid. I removed the plugs and the belt that drives the ancillaries but still could not turn it over by hand. The next day I went back and the engine turns over by hand ok (plugs removed). I c/out a compression test on all cylinders and all good.
I would like to know how much water should be coming out of the cooling exhaust, water is coming out but only gently running out, should this not come out in more of a jet like it is being pumped round. (I have the cooling ears supplying the water). I am thinking maybe I had an air lock or the water pump is u/s. Also how should the pump feel when turned by hand, this one feels quite stiff to turn.
Iam going back to the boat on Thursday to drain the oil to see if there are any metal bits in the sump and test the oil gauges, I will fill the cooling system again and make sure I have water at the top of the cylinder, apart from that i don't know what to do.
Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated as I don?t want to run it and do more damage.
Thanks in advance for any help
