I need to remove outboard engine; but I am not sure what is the procedure for removing steering cable. Attached are the pictures how it looks like so maybe somebody can tell me what how to remove it.

Re: Removing steering cable from outboard

The procedure is to uncouple the rod from the cable as shown in your second picture. Then unscrew the nut in yor first picture enough to remove the cable.

I'm currently working on my boat and I need to complete this myself. I need to get my OB tilted up higher to get the cable lined up enough to removed it all the way.

Good luck!

On many boats it's not even possible to remove the cable without removing the motor.

disconnect control arm from cable(#2 photo) you can turn the wheel all the way to make access easier. Then unscrew retaining nut (photo #1) and pull cable as free as possible, you won't be able to completely remove just yet. You can turn wheel oppisite way to shorten end, now get in the boat and pull whole cable in as far as you can, you may not be able to go much as its going to bind on the radius, but every little bit helps. Once as much slack you can take is out you will probably have to slide the motor toward the port end of the transom to free the cable the rest of the way. When you reset the motor set it on that same side to save having to slide it again. Once the O/B is off that is a great time to inspect/lube cable where possible and if the transom boot that it slides thru needs to be replaced do it now as well, so you can use a one piece instead of a split boot. Get a good end wrench for the retaining nut its starting to get pretty buggered. Good luck.
