Hi All:

I just purchased a 1998 Procraft 170Dc bass boat. It has a 125hp Mariner on it. I haven't seached yet, but hitting the horn switch on the console produces nada. Does anyone know where the horn is mounted. This will give me a heads-up before I crawl under the consoles this weekend. Also the paint /gelcoat is extremely faded. I've tried buffing a section with compound, to no avail. It shines, but not like I like it. I did some research and found a test of chemicals that restore the shine. It seems that Poli-Glo is the best, so I ordered their kit. Anyone tried this, and how were the results? Thanks for your input on these things.

My horn doesn't work, either, and I haven't done the "search" for it yet, though I think I know where it is. If it isn't surface mounted it may be sitting behind a "grille" mounted on the hull somewhere.

They don't last long unless you pay big bucks. They're constructed with 3 or 4 dissimilar metals and succomb to galvanic corrosion. If you buy a new one, mount it where you can reach it for easy replacement in a few years. I carry a compressed air bottle horn for now. Always works :)

Thanks John,

I think I will get a loud one or two from an auto parts store and mount it under the passenger console.

Asuming you are now, or was in the Navy, where were you stationed? I have 2 sons in now. One is an E-5 in Intell. aboard the BlueRidge in Yokoska,Japan (spelling) and the other was recently stationed in Hawaii, from Pennsacola, for cryptology.
