someone gave me a 87 johnson 40 outboard, been sitting a long time (years). Finally got it running good, but it's overheating. I was trying to get the lower unit off to check the impellor but it's stuck on tha small shaft at the front of the lower unit. Am i missing something or is it just stuck.

Welcome to Iboats Lizard!

Where is it sticking, on the drive shaft, or the shifting rod? Is the shift rod disconnected?

Here is a pic.
