On this Force 1990 120hp 1201X90B the pump seemed to work fine both ways when I tested at the relay, I had to replace a broken steel hydrolic hose. I pulled the top off to make sure all was clean and everything did look real clean.
After I put it together it acts like it is not getting power. The brushes were also placed correctly. What the heck could it be? I have jumped it right from its own wires, not through the relay and still nothing. I have never used this boat, it is a project I am trying to get on the water. thank you for any advice.

It is a good thing that your motor isn't working. You should not use it until after you put in new frame seals and new top sealing washers. When you took it apart those seals were ruined. Your motor should not be allowed near water until after they are replaced. The inside of the motor is not painted and even the slightest amount of water can cause permanent damage.

If you lifted the armature while top was removed then you should also inspect the oil seal to make sure it is still securely seated. If oil splashes up into the motor body it can soften the circuit board and brushes causing eventual failure. You access the oil seal by removing the valve body. It is inserted into top of reservoir from below.

thanks for the info but what could be causing it to not want to spin in any direction now even when power in directly connected? thanks

it was put back together incorrectly. It needs to be removed from boat in order to correctly reassemble.

Hello, I am not sure but I think it might have an internal high temp cut out switch. I was running mine ( I still don't have running yet ) and it would stop, I jumped past the breaker to the motor leads and it would not run until it cooled down a bit, if it does have an internal cut out switch the contacts may need resurfacing, just a thought.

Not sure if this is applicable in your case, but I think RRitt has some valuable information. The motor armature shaft has to engage a gear in the valve/pump assy. The shaft has two flats machined which fits into a matching hole in a gear in the valve/pump assy. If the shaft is not inserted into the hole and you tighten everything down, it will bind the armature up and the motor not turn. You may have popped the shaft out of the gear that drives the hydraulic pump when you took the top off.

Trim systems are finicky. MacGyver repair jobs rarely last more than a few months (if that). If you're looking for shortcuts then I'm not going to help. Some parts are NLA and if you ruin any of them then you are SOL. Either do it right or take it to somebody who can.
