i have a 51-52 fleetwin in open air run fine.. low rpm - high.. dunk her water low rpm stalls mid to high seems fine maybe i lil sluggish. new plugs (old ones fire just fine), impeller, cleaned carb, using old gaskets and no compression test yet. new to boat motors. thanks to everyones help i have gotten this far. thanks in advanced.

Your running your motor in the open air??? Uh theres the first problem.
Second, have you made the proper adjustments using the high and low carb needles?

Starting setting for the needles is 3/4 turn out on the high speed and 11/2 turns on the low speed. in water starts at 3/4 thr. to get wot needed to turn in hsn aprox 1/2 turn. under 1/2 thr sputters and die. only ran in air to see if it would fire after cleaning carb..was still freezing outside

Is this a pressure tank system or has it been converted to a pump? They need to run in water to make any adjustements and to prevent damage to the impeller. What plugs were installed?

51 / 52 Fleetwins are integrated tanks. No remote tanks.

I have several of those engines (4443's) and love em. Great power/weight ratio. But your problem is weird. Are you actually testing it out of the water? That's a complete no no. As mentioned you need to set the carb needles when it's in the water.

It only takes less than a few seconds to roast out your impeller, with it out of the water.

got back out to boat today...reset carb choke on, pop on 3rd pull choke in 2 pulls nothing...move to 3/4 thr pull .. she runs. played turn the needle got down to lil less 1/2 sputter dead..but i did take notice to gas overflowing from carb..at high speed on overflow...thinkin clean carb again...also forgot to mention this is 1st tank of gas. 1st got motor it was seized . possible contaminate still in tank/fuel line...


P.S. this is my first boat/motor...
