I have a 1959 johnson 35 hp runs good but does not get up and go, it will but only do 6 mph on my GPS any ideas? The top cylinder spark plug is white and the bottom spark plug looks like oil is on it.

Re: need help

Plug wires, change them if you have done everything else and are beating your head against the wall. Reuse some car ones if you have some lying bout' or buy it off a spool at one of your local Napa's or similar. I do it now on every motor I get.

Might not be the solution, just a thought.

Good luck

Re: need help

use marine wires not auto you could potentially be asking for grief.auto are usually carbon core which could possibly break under the vibration of the motor for one thing.any outboard shop should have a roll of the proper wire.a white plug tells me your running lean in that cylinder .possible plugged jet or it could be as simple as the low speed mixture not properly adjusted.also carefully check the fuel lines for any leakage.hope this gets you at least started and maybe somebody else will chime in with a little more motor experince as im still a rookie with only 7 or so motors and 30 years of goofing around so in here im still a tadpole, lol.
