I just bought a 8hp carb off ebay so I can try on my 6hp.

I heard the 8hp has more reeds( not sure ) oem parts they have the same cases it seems.

I read long time ago, Where you can modd the exhaust but not sure how.

Thx for any help.

I got this motor on a 12f aluminium and with me and my 140p friend and i'm 180, it planes. But if I bring another friend thats 200p it will not come out of water.

hope 2hp will do the trick. :)

It is what it is, these little motors aren't monsters by any means, now a 15 on the other hand.

Yes.. Even a 9.9 would be cool and I heard there just detuned 15hp.

I'm looking for a 14f with 15-20 hp.. maybe next year.

Sort of, the later model's have a little more to it, different reed setup, tuned exhaust, that sort of thing.

Got a ss 9.9 sitting in my garage I just bought with my boat. Got a long shaft 9.9 and a 15 as well.

Do you know how they mod the exhaust? just cut out the tube?

I went to dealer otherday and they said I can't change my main jet because its part of the carb. Is this true?

It's more than just the jet, the carb throat is bigger I imagine between the 2 carbs and yes it is part of the carb according to the diagram. The exhaust on the 9.9 was square, when they designed the later 15 exhaust tube it was round in shape.

Re: 1992 6hp with 8hp carb.

I did oem parts/serials or pistons and LEAF PLATE ASSY/reeds

And there the same. Is the muffler the same size?

Well, let us know how that works. I have the same 92 6hp. However, when I checked the parts list, the main thing that was different was the cylinder block. Now, what that means to me is that it has different porting, probably. I'll be interested to hear if you get any better performance. I doubt that you will see any major change.

Re: 1992 6hp with 8hp carb.

CATransplant. Theres two categories for cylinder block but pistons are the same serial.

Not sure why they would place 2. The reeds and muffs are the same and would be the main issues as the stroke being alittle off set. Could be porting. Runs very smooth tho and crisp throttle.

I think there just trying to confuse people.

Actually, I'd be willing to bet a lot of money that the porting in the 8hp block is quite a bit different than the 6hp. That's why there are two different part numbers for the block. The internals are the same, but if the porting is different, that will make all the difference.

I suspect that you aren't going to get 8 hp out of your 6 with an 8 carb. Not even close. There's a reason for the two different blocks, and that reason adds up to the extra hp.

As I said, let us know what you find on the water. That's really the only test. The extra 2hp make a big difference on an outboard that size. Wish I had an 8.
