Hi,

Need a new fuel pump for my 4.3. Does anyone happen to have the part # for it? Currently, have this one on:

Carter P61296S
09H07B

Just bought the boat and I know there was some engine work done so not sure if this is the correct pump. Looks very small.

This one seems to be popular SIE-18-7326 but it's for 1992 and up. Does anyone know if it will work for 1988?

Thank you.

88 Mercruiser 4.3L engines didn't have electric fuel pumps. What you have is what some previous owner installed instead of replacing the mechanical pump that is OEM for that engine.
Would strongly suggest you get an OEM pump.
At this point it's impossible to say if your pump is wired safely or not.

Don,

Thanks so much for the quick reply. This engine has been completelly rebuilt. Now I'm starting to think that this is a newer engine block too (do you know if there is s/n on the block itself somewhere?) I looked at the spot where mechanical pump would normally go and the inside of it is a solid cast - there would be nothing to connect the mechanical pump to. So, have to make the best of it... Can you give me some basic pointers on proper electric pump conection? Do you think SIE-18-7326 would work?

Thanks.

Called my Napa store and they said that SIE-18-7326 if for fuel injected engines - mine stil has the carb. I think I need a low pressure pump. Found these requirements out on http://www.uscgboating.org/regulations/boat_builders_handbook_and_regulations.aspx

1.wire the electric fuel pump to operate only when the starter is operating, and
2.by means of an oil pressure switch, only allow the pump to operate only as long as the engine is running.

Is there a simple way of accomplishing this?

Thanks.

Define simple. It IS going to involve some wiring, but is pretty easy if you have a basic understanding of whats involved. If you don't, pay a pro to do it;it is critical to safety. 'nutcase

Thanks for the reply. I'm pretty handy mechanically/ok electrically. If you or someone could tell me which wires to connect to where I'm pretty sure I can do it. Maybe someone has a diagram for the proper oil pressure switch installation? Also, where is a good place to buy one?

Thanks.

Ok, I think this should not be too hard... Quick question, where do I find a place to mount the oil pressure safety switch?

Thanks.

You can tee it off the oil pressure gauge sender, Merc has it down by the block mounted oil filter.

Thanks Don. iboats is the best! Another quick question, do you think a generic marine low pressure fuel pump will work? 1.5 - 10 psi, 32 GPH

Thanks.

Not going to give a generic answer, but if you have a specific pump in mind ask. 10 PSI is way too high, 6 or 7 should be about max.

Don,

It says it on the package, not on their site.

Thanks.
