Re: fixing Transom

hi stosky...

there are several methods of doing it....just search transom....and youll have your pics of how to do it....the com0leated projects forum is full of great examples.

what you want to do....is after the transom is built....coat the tansom with resin and glass....install transom....and clamp it to the hull...this can be clamped in the standard ways....or you can drill holes thru the transom and use the holes to thru bolt it....(coat the bolts with wax so you can remove them later....the towing hook holes are a great place for this)

make sure that when the transom is installed there is no voids between the hull and the new transom....

after its in and cured....just fill the edges with peanut butter and glass the whole shabang to the hull !

cheers

Re: fixing Transom

Dry fit it first, drill all the clamping thru-bolt holes so you're ready to draw it tight asap. You'll only get 10 minutes to get it in there and clamped with poly resin.
The trick is to rehearse it before doing it.

And use Glass Mat between glass hull and transom wood, it will fill voids better than cloth.

If you get your ducks in a row the fitting will be a none event.

Re: fixing Transom

Check out my thread. I replaced my rotten transom, and then some.
