I want to put a trim gauge on my boat. I have a 2002 Yamaha 150 TXRA on a blazer bay 21. The boat never had a trim gauge on it. What part do I need for the project ?? and how to do it

Do you have a hole in the dash already or the space and the means to cut a hole for the gauge? The parts are #s 1, 2, 3, & 4 here. Parts should bolt on without difficulty. Wire from the sending unit runs to inside the motor housing. You'll then have to fish 2 wires from the housing through your wire bundle and up to the dash to the gauge. Fairly straightforward if you're handy with tools.

Thank you for your reply. There is already a hole in the insturment panel. Is the wiring needed included in parts 1, 2, 3, and 4?

Thank you,

Wiring from sending unit to the gauge is not included. You'll have to buy wire. Might double check and make sure your motor doesn't already have a sending unit on it. If it has one you'll see it mounted right behind the tilt tube.

Thank you for your feedback. I looked and did find a sending unit there already. All I have to do is trace the wires to the console and buy a gauge. Again, thank you.

Re: trim gauge on 2002 txra

After some more checking. I found a pink wire and a black wire from the trim sender going to a plug- coming out of the plug is a green/red strip & a green/blk strip & there is also a gray wire going to a buzzer under the console which i think is a warning device on the engine- I can not tell where the two green go. I look at all the wires under the console but none was these two green wires-question: does theses geen wire change color some where in the wiring harness or maybe I will have to run to wires to the gauge.
Thank you for your advice

Re: trim gauge on 2002 txra

I have found the two grreen wire go to the CPU. The motor has a sending unit already but it only has two wires, a Pink and a Black, the pink connected to one of the green wire and the black is not conneting to anything. My manual showes a orange, black and pink wire from the sending unit but mine only has the pink and black wire . Is the black suppost to go to the gauge??
Thank you for your advice

black goes to the trim gauge black ground wire, the pink is trim send, the grn/red is for oil visual indicate for low engine tank, the green is for remote tank visual and the gray is for overheat visual.
the orange was a 5V reference voltage on the older 3 wire trim senders. would be just as easy to buy a 6y5 style digital tach that has all the alarm indicates and a trim gauge built in.

Re: trim gauge on 2002 txra

The sending unit only has the red, (or pink), and black which is routed up into the engine housing, They connect into a terminal. A single wire, the trim sender lead, which carries the signal will exit the engine housing and run up through the wire bundle and, (hopefully), to your dash. It will not necessarily be the same color as what exits the housing, and in your boat, since it did not originally come with a trim gauge, it may terminate somewhere aft of your dash, but it may be there. On my boat the trim sender lead is black with a white stripe. The trim gauge will have three posts. One for the sender lead, one for a positive and one for a negative, (for the light in the gauge). Negative is always solid black, in my Ranger the positive for the instrument lights is purple. If you have a wire that you suspect might be the trim sender lead you can verify by putting an ohm meter on it and as someone moves the pin up and down on the sender you will see the ohm meter register between 0 and 165 ohms if you have the right wire.

Thank you for your feedback. What 6y5 style digital tach would you recommend for this ?

Re: trim gauge on 2002 txra

I sure appreciate the information that you all are providing to me and I think you. I have a pink, a black and gray going to the terminal. The gray go to the buzzer under the console. The pink goes to a green/red wire going to the CPU. The black does not exit the terminal. The wire I have in another terminal going out of the engine is a blue, a brown, a black and a black/red on the female side of the terminal and on the male side of that terminal coming from the engine are the same color wires except for a yellow that chanes to brown on the female side of the terminal. All I know to do now is trace these wire. I hope this makes a little sense to you and again I sure appreciate your information
Thank You and have a good evening
