Raw water Line routing

What is the proper route of the raw water in the cooling system?
Mine appears to run from the thru hull to a raw water strainer then down around one side of the engine thru the transmission oil cooler then back on the other side to the raw water pump and up into the thermostat housing which splits the water three ways, one to each exhaust manifold and one to the engine cirulating pump.
I do not see where the water that is circulated through the engine comes back out of the block.
Is there a diagram for this that fits most any inboard???? I must be missing something..

Re: Raw water Line routing

What type of motor
What type of cooling system
Does it have a heat exchanger

Re: Raw water Line routing

It's a Ford 351
Raw water cooling
Do not know what a heat exchanger is.

I have a 68 mustang with a similar engine and on that the water pump sends water thru the block, up thru the heads and then thru the intake manifold and past the thermostat then back into the top of the radiator

Just do not know how it flows on this engine unless it comes out past the thermostat and mixes with the water that goes the the exhaust manifolds

I like to know how things work.

Yes it does.
Good Luck Muc

Thank you

I thought it might.

It just seems like all marine engines I have looked at have the thermostat housing with three hoses on it.

Sorry, I thought I did

It's a 1980 (PCM) Ford 351 V-8 with raw water cooling on a straight inboard connected to a Borg Warner Velvet drive, if it helps, the boat is a Penn Yan explorer with tunnel drive.

from the inlet ,to the pump, to the therm housing. therm closed: water comes in ,thru the housing, out the risers untill therm opens. once open , engine water mixes in and goes out the manifolds. This link if for GM`s but the theory is similiar. A manual for the Ford should be in the adults section ,may be useful for cooling diagrams.

That link helped a lot, what do you mean by the adult section?
