are lower unit gears marked in any way so you can tell the pitch and ratio? so you can tell if they interchange or not. look identical,,different part number.

That all depends on what you are working on. Let us know.

Re: gears

have a 72 65hp hydoelectric. someone gave me same motor,,id # same. forward gear looks the same,,clutch dog is the same,,reverse gear doesnt fit my shaft,,pinion looks the same. driveshaft is different too. obviously someone changed out the lower unit. was going to mix new forward and use old reverse, the ears broke off my forward gear and clutch dog.

Re: gears

Normally the forward gear and pinion gear are a set, however.........

What are the original forward gear and pinion gear part numbers, and what are the part numbers of the replacement forward and pinion gears?

Re: gears

385259 supersedes up to 397492 and is listed as Vintage (no price listed)

382310 supersedes up to 397494 and shows a price. (my price book is not current)

All numbers are listed as "Gear Sets" (forward gear & pinion).

However the final difference in numbers indicate that something is very different between the two forward gears. Look them over closely.

Re: gears

the only difference is the thrust washer and bearing that go against pump,,they ride different places but its the same pump fits into pump right rides on center lip, smaller bearing,,old rides on outside lip,,bigger bearing
