Dirty Gear oil

Hi, I have a 1991 Evinrude 115hp 2 stroke. Just dumped oil in lower gear case leg and it looks pretty black. Is this normal or could there be something wrong? This is the first time that I have changed it, but apparently the dealer did it last year also, so they say. Any help would be appreciated.

Always looks darker when you drain it from what I have found. Most important thing is no water intrusion.

If it doesn't appear milky, then you don't have to worry about water getting in. Did you happen to notice any bits of metal? that would be a sign of potential gear problems down the road. As far as it being black, I would imagine it's not a big deal, but i'm by far no expert. just my $0.02
