i have a fresh water cooled 250 c.i.d. chevy / mercruiser combo. when i took the valve cover off, there was coolant coming from the valve cover bolt hole, right side, back of the engine. i was told to put thread sealer on the bolt and put it back in. is this common? and should it cause me concern? thanks!

The valve cover bolts do not extend into the cooling jackets.Might need to look closer,are you sure you dont mean a head bolt?

I've never heard of water coming out of the valve cover bolts before, head bolts yes, because they bolt into the water jacket. But not the valve cover bolts.
