Replace Mercruiser Prestolite Trim Pump

Hello,

I have a 1982 Mercruiser 898 that was equipped with a Prestolite trim pump. These trim pumps are a terrible design and this one has broken on me for the third time. I'm sick of continuing to replace these pumps. Is there a newer style pump that will fit into the system I have? If not, is there a way to replace some hoses and modify the system to fit a newer style pump? Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but my design appears to have one stainless steel braided hose (i assume that is the pressurized hose) and one return hose. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Yes a newer type pump will work. Yes depending on the pump you may need to adapt hoses to it.

do you know which pump would work? and what hoses I would need to adapt to it?
