In case nobody's told you already, you can see the exploded parts views by going to www.searspartsdirect.com and putting the model number in the space provided. Some of the parts you may need are available directly from sears, but not all.

The diagrams may help you to understand the outboard better.

Re: 7.5 hp Gamefisher

Btw, I asked my neighbor a couple questions and he said that the water stream that comes out of the motor when it is done flowing through the system, is like a jet of water. Is this true, anyone. As of now, it is a coarse mist and will get some pics of it. If there is something stuck in the tube or what-not, how do I get it out? Thanks so much,
Colin

Your neighbor is incorrect. On that outboard, you should get a coarse mist, mixed with exhaust, out of the holes halfway up the leg. The water cools only the exhaust tube, not the engine. If you're seeing a coarse mist coming out of those holes, you're golden.

Re: 7.5 hp Gamefisher

Ok. Well on that note, I was/am not able to shift the motor into reverse. On this motor, is there a reverse? I broke the shifting lever doing that but I am pretty sure that it has a reverse. Any points on that? I also need to clean out the carb. I know how to do that but is there any pointers? I will upload pictures today hopefully :). I also need to know what lube to use in the bottom unit. Any pointers there? Cost? And also, how to clean out a primary gas tank (the one that sits on the floor of the boat)? Thanks,
Colin

Re: 7.5 hp Gamefisher

It looks to me like that outboard just has forward and neutral, based on the exploded view of the gearcase, but I could be wrong. That uses normal 90 weight outboard lower unit oil.

As for the tank, I'd just go to Walmart and buy a 3 gallon plastic tank. Use the connector fitting and hose from your current tank, and toss the old tank. It's not worth the trouble of trying to clean it, in my opinion.

Well how do I go into reverse then? This is really confusing to me!

If that one doesn't have reverse, you actually turn the engine around, pointing backwards to go backwards. On one with a neutral, you shift into neutral, then turn the engine around backwards and shift into forwards. It's clumsy and annoying, but it works OK. In the end, you rarely actually run a boat backwards anyhow most of the time. I only saw a single gear in the drawings, but it does have a shifting fork and rod, so it at least has neutral. I'm just not positive.

Ok. Well thanks for that pointer. What about the luberication in the lower unit. Can you give me some cost and what kind to get. Also how much would it cost?

On this post of yours, the engine is air cooled then, right?

Yup. The engine is air-cooled, as are all the single-cylinder Eskas. Eska did make water-cooled 9.9 and 15 hp two-cylinder models, but all the rest are air-cooled. The impeller pumps water up where it cools the exhaust. If you run the outboard too long with a bad water pump, the heat from the exhaust will cook stuff and shorten the engine's life. It's important to keep the water flowing.

The engine on your 7.5 is similar to a 2-stroke lawnmower engine from Tecumseh. They can be pretty reliable, as long as they're taken care of, given the right oil/fuel mix and maintained properly.

I still urge you to try to find a service manual (not an owner's manual) for your 7.5. Search for Eska Manuals on ebay. Someone will have one there before long, and it will help you enormously if you plan to keep this outboard.

All of your questions will be answered, and with detailed illustrations. It's pretty much a must for anyone doing his or her own work on an outboard.

They didn't help me at all. But, then, I didn't really have any questions about your outboard. Everything is included in the model number. That answers all the questions. You don't have Reverse, just Forward and Neutral, on that outboard. It's air-cooled, with a water-cooled exhaust. It uses normal outboard lower unit lubricant, and not much of it.

If you broke the shifter, you'll have to find replacement parts to shift it, I'd guess. I couldn't see the shifter in your photos anyhow.

Did you have any other questions about it?

I realize this is vague but I see your going to have to dissemble alot more, I think I can see whats holding up your float bowel, looks like that bottom pan or shrould is going to have to be taken lose, maybe it will move slightly out of the way, I do think you will have to unclip the throttle to. wish you the best of luck, get that service manual and you can tell us how you did it...one last word, all the "improvents" made to those later model ted williams and game fisher only seems to make the simple little jobs alot harder,

Re: 7.5 hp Gamefisher

I am wondering if anyone reading this thread may be able/willing to offer some help please? I have a 1989 Sears Gamefisher 7.5 Hp motor, model # 217-586753. I bought a month ago and having hassles with the carb, I think. I cleaned out the carb, replaced clamps on the pipes, checked the needle and jet, and generally made sure the inlets and outlets on the carb were in working condition, and that fuel was getting in and out of the carb. Once done, and replacing the spark plug, she ran well... for 2 boat trips. Tried to start her the other day, and no luck. Tried spraying carb start into the carb, but would still not start. I even took out the spark plug and sprayed in the chamber as well. Still wouldn't start. Fuel is definately getting into the carb, because its draining out of the bottom of the column assembly (at the prop and the exhaust outlets). I think this is strange though. I am not having any luck in finding a replacement carb kit. Does anyone know what could be the problem? Thanks for reading...

PLEASE DISREGARD. I HAVE OPENED A DEDICATED THREAD FOR THIS:
