I am doing my stringers and transom with epoxy, so I am thinking to also do the floor (or is it called deck?) with epoxy. Now, I plan on using a water based sealer on the bottom, and then some quality paint. Since it is not going to be exposed to elements, it should last a long time. The top I plan on coating with epoxy. I wonder if this is a good plan, and do I need a mat or a cloth for the top, and which one?

i would use the epoxy on the bottom of the deck panels as well, dont think a h2o based sealer would provide the protection you would expect, i am at that point and have used poly resin w/ csm on the bottom 1 ply mat 3coats resin, and just sealed the top w resin for now, will scuff and use csm 2 ply over the deck once installed.
i think i would use a cloth over the deck, any would be better than none, not sure which would suit u best, on of the f/g sages should be able to recommend the correct one.

If you have gone the epoxy route why stop now.... get a coating on the bottom of the decking and the top ..... seal that up good. Any of the water based sealers really are not meant for a marine environment in an enclosed place......

Thanks guys, I think I'll just use epoxy on both sides with a 2 oz. plain wave cloth on the top (epoxy, cloth, epoxy) and then top it of with Durabak paint.

What cloth would I use for where deck meets the hull? Same as for stringers (1700 w/no mat biaxial, 8" wide (4 on deck, 4 to hull)?

my plan is to use PB to fair the edges, some 4" rail tape, then resin/csm over that might b more than i need not sure would rather err on the overdone side.
